Truly, incredibly, really in your writing: why readers notice

Smell Adverb doing a fact's job

"Truly unique", "incredibly easy", "really powerful". Intensifiers make a claim louder without making it more believable. They are a sign the sentence is short of a fact.

Delete the adverb and read the sentence again. If it goes flat, it needed a number, not a stronger word.

Before

It's incredibly easy to use and truly powerful.

After

Most people send their first invoice within five minutes of signing up.

The fix

Delete it. If the sentence goes flat, add a fact.

What the checker matches

A pattern match. In plain terms: adverb doing a fact's job.

\b(truly|incredibly|extremely|highly|totally|absolutely|genuinely|literally|undeniably|remarkably)\b
